Richard "Dick" Kalich's first novel, THE NIHILESTHETE, garnered great critical praise when published at home by Permanent Press. Selected by The Philadelphia Inquirer critic, Carlin Romano, as one of the twenty-four "Most Noteworthy" novels of 1987. Selected by The National Endowment for the Arts and the United States Information Agency to represent U.S. literary titles at the 1987 Frankfurt Book Fair. THE NIHILESTHETE was a finalist for the National Book Award, received The New American Writing Award and was nominated for the Pen/Faulkner Award, the Hemingway Award and the Pulitzer Prize. It has been purchased for publication in Russia, France, England, Sweden, Germany, Israel, Denmark, Bulgaria and Holland. A second novel, THE ZOO, was published in Japan by Kodansha, France and Israel will follow. THE ZOO is currently being adapted to be a major animated feature for theatrical release. Kalich's third novel, CHARLIE P, was published by the renowned Green Integer Books. CHARLIE P immediately won extraordinary praise from both critics and literatti and has been purchased for publication in Russia, Bulgaria, and Turkey. CHARLIE P is a finalist for The New Century Writing Award. A new novel, PENTHOUSE F, has recently been completed and has already won extraordinary praise from such literrati as Brian Evenson, Brian McHale, Warren Motte and Christopher Leise.

Dick and his brother Bob have sold their original scripts to Hollywood Pictures, Shooting Gallery, United Image, and Bruckheimer Films and have developed a thriller with Peters Entertainment. They are currently producing two of their original scripts as independent films and are in pre-production on a third screenplay.

The Kalichs have recently partnered with Barrie M. Osborne, acclaimed producer of The Matrix and Lord of the Rings.
