This work includes an Introduction by Antony Lejeune. "The Devil Rides Out" is the most famous work of a master storyteller, a classic of weird fiction which has been described as "the best thing of its kind since Dracula" a genuinely frightening tale of devil-worship and sorcery in modern Britain.
A group of old friends discover that one of them has been lured into a coven of Satanists. They determine to rescue him - and a beautiful girl employed as a medium.
The head of the coven proves to be no charlatan but an Adept of the Dark Arts, able to infiltrate dreams and conjure up fearsome entities. De Richleau fights back with his own knowledge of occultism and ancient lore. A duel ensues between White and Black Magic, Good and Evil used as weapons.
Whenever, subsequently, Dennis Wheatley was asked what he really believed about the supernatural, he would just reply "Don't meddle!" Few readers will need that warning repeated. Книга «The Devil Rides Out» автора Деннис Уитли оценена посетителями КнигоГид, и её читательский рейтинг составил 8.00 из 10.

Henry James was arguably the greatest practitioner of what has been called the psychological ghost story. His stories explore the region which lies between the supernatural or straightforwardly marvellous and the darker areas of the human psyche. This edition includes all ten of his ghost stories, and as such is the fullest collection currently available. The stories range widely in tone and ty...

One of the ear...

Terror by Night
Terror by Night

Edited and with an Introduction by David Stuart Davies. 'Nothing is so improbable as what is true' Of all the writers of ghost and horror stories, Ambrose Bierce is perhaps the most colourful. He was a dark, cynical and pessimistic soul who had a grim vision of fate and the unfairness of life, which he channelled into his fiction. And in his death, or rather his disappearance, he...

With an Introduction by Hilary Long. Marjorie Bowen (1885-1952) spent the early part of her working life providing for a demanding and ungrateful family. We are lucky that she did so, since among the results were these short stories of rare quality. Tales of Mystery & the Macabre

In the great mirror opposite I saw myself, and right behind, another wicked fearful self, so like me my soul seemed to quiver within me, as though not knowing to which similitude of body it belonged...
